Great book for Python and Computer Algorithms for both beginners and experts.

Algorithms & Data Structures in Python book appears to be written for both beginners and experts.

The topics are well organized. The explanations are well detailed and supplemented with Python code. The book would help any interested reader understand the algorithms and data structures themselves while giving a good hands-on explanation of workings of Python. The algorithms related discussion builds the underlying concepts in a clear and methodical manner.

All in all, a good book to get you started with either Python or Computer Algorithms; or both.

Excellent algorithms book!!!

This is the first python book I'm reading. I was interested in reading this as it discusses algorithm and DS in Python and not merely Python as a language. This book gradually introduced new topics and the overall flow of this book was good. Reading this I felt it was a very good interview prep book. I learnt a lot of new things reading sections on statistical simulation and computational geometry. For me the best part is the clear and concise way in which the algorithms are presented.

Enjoyable Python book

This book starts from very basic Python elements and builds up to more complex ideas quickly. A fairly broad range of topics is covered, but no prior knowledge of Python is required since the authors also give a good introduction to programming in Python. I found this book to be a very good read, and I learned a number of useful things from it. If I were to teach a course on Python programming, I would use this book.

Bloody Bells

Ask not for whom the bloody bells toll, they toll for thee, and their ringing will bring a chaotic nightmare of evil into the world.
I really enjoyed this segment of Mike Mignola's character Lord Baltimore and his experience with The Curse Bells. The main premise in the story seems to be that people are inherently evil, and it is only in making conscious choices to help others that they become human.
Mike Mignola's version of vampires in this story is that people once worshipped them as gods, but after people acquired more knowledge and evolved from their inherent base nature, vampires lost their hold over humans until the horror of modern warfare made them relevant again.
In this volume, Lord Baltimore has had everything but his thirst for revenge taken away from him by one of these ancient creatures, and as he follows his path of personal retribution, Lord Baltimore runs straight into an even greater evil that is manifesting itself in a war torn Europe; the way this malevolent issue is presented at the end of World War I resonates with historic significance... And the irony of Lord Baltimore's situation is that he too is being hunted by a religious fanatic determined to eradicate malevolence from the remnants of the plague savaged landscape, so the decisions Lord Baltimore makes are sure to have significant consequences in the next volume of Mike Mignola's Lord Baltimore.
The blood drenched art work is my favorite part of the book: humanities life vitae flows in crimson waterfalls from carillon bells to fall earthward and splash upward in violent counterforce as it strikes pools of plasma puddles that roll over the dead and run down stony steps to infuse a variety of horrific characters with a liquid, vibrant red: vampires as huge bats; rotting vampire nuns torturing themselves with cross flagellation and Eucharist immolation; soldier warlocks intent on taking on the world; bloody female dwarf homunculus so evil they cannot be killed. All this and much more are drawn to create a tortured landscape where even the most innocent appearing youth is stained with evil.
This is a dark and foreboding tale told for those who have strong constitutions and the courage to deal with the possibility that evil is only waiting for the right spark to bring it to life.

Mike Mignola can do no wrong.

I might be overstating in the title but I have never been truly disappointed in one of his stories. The Curse Bells delivers more of the creepy atmosphere and scary thrills that Mignola is known for in Hellboy. Baltimore is a bit of a reluctant and tragic hero but a hero none the less.

Baltimore is not set in the Hellboy universe but it's not far removed. The over story of Baltimore pursuing his revenge on a Vampire and dealing with various other supernatural horrors along the way is excellent on it's face. The sub nature of the story with him dealing with the fact that he is now a champion against supernatural evil, (sounds silly when you say it and probably feels worse when you know it's true) is compelling and gives the character depth. This second comic chapter is stronger and a better read than the first.

The best thing Dark Horse released in 2011

`Baltimore: The Curse Bells' (Volume 2) compiles issues 1 - 5 (August - December 2011) of the eponymous comic books.`The Curse Bells' series was, quite simply, the best thing Dark Horse released in 2011. And the entire `Baltimore' series is, in my opinion, easily the best entry in the current 'Mignola comic book franchise'.

Why is "Baltimore' so good ?

The major appeal of `Baltimore' is the outstanding artwork by New Zealander Ben Stenbeck. Even more so than Duncan Fegredo (`Hellboy: The Wild Hunt'), Stenbeck takes the `Durer Woodcut' graphic style of Mignola, and gives it his own, distinct, character. The result is artwork that is markedly superior to the cartoony, hasty style of illustration that dooms so many of the `B.P.R.D.' comics.

When Stenbeck's art combines with the able coloring ability of Dave Stewart, the result is a comic with an Old Worlde visual flavor, perfectly rendered in moody grays, sepias, browns, and forest greens.

Which makes the red blood and gore of `Curse Bells' stand out all the better.....

The second thing going for `Baltimore' is Christopher Golden, and his handling of the writing duties. While the first `Baltimore' series, `The Plague Ships' (2010) started off on a promising note, but tended to turn into a conventional hero Vs monster tale in the final issues, in `Bells', Golden keeps the plot churning along with surprises and gruesome revelations through until the last page. After the incoherent, rambling character of Mignola's `The Wild Hunt' Hellboy series, the tighter plotting skills of Golden really make a difference for the `Baltimore' franchise.

The other reviewers give a good synopsis of the plot of `Bells', so I won't belabor the storyline except to state that it takes place after the events of `Plague Ships', but it isn't necessary to have read that series to understand what takes place in `Bells'.

The story unfolds in an alternate Europe, in the aftermath of WWI. It's 1916, and in the dark and creepy woods outside Lucerne, Switzerland, Lord Baltimore is asking wary peasants for the location of his archenemy, the vampire Haigus. When a couple of kids direct him to a nearby village, the vampire hunting action kicks off and doesn't let up.

Any fan of horror fiction, and comics, will want to get a copy of `The Curse Bells'.

Carbon copy of men's edition, but without the great pants

I bought Classic Tailoring Techniques: A Construction Guide for Men's Wear first. It's great. The text teaches you how to make beautifully tailored garments. I wanted to see those techniques specifically for women's jackets, trousers, and skirts so I bought this edition. Except for the section on pants and skirts, the text is identical in both books. The sections on women's pants and skirts is like anything you'd find in a commercial pattern instruction sheet - nothing special at all. Couture techniques for making beautifully tailored pants for women are not described or even hinted at in this book. Actually, it's not the fault of the author -- tailoring techniques are actually designed for men's clothing. Couture techniques are essentially for women's clothing. If you want to learn to make tailored jackets (men's or women's), either book gives the same instructions. For tailored trousers, use the men's book. For women's skirts, see Couture Sewing Techniques by Claire B. Shaeffer. (Actually, Claire Shaeffer's Vogue patterns for jackets and trousers are probably a better purchase than this book.)

I found this book and the men's wear companion to be extremely informative and one of the best guides around for learning how to create a tailored garment using the traditional techniques as opposed to the "speed" tailoring that is so popular. There are differences in men's and women's jackets which each book illustrates respectively. Also, the women's book includes chapters on skirts and pants. My disappointment is that neither book included instruction on the various types of coats and raincoats with zip/button-out linings. Coats are not just long jackets; there are differences in construction techniques. I also think that there should have been a little more clarification of some things. For instance, it took me a while to realize that silk-finished thread was actually Mettler's silk-finish cotton thread and not a type of silk thread. A search of the internet provided the answer. Minor gripes in comparison to the knowledge to be gained therein by those who want to make couture-quality garments.

Essential Guide to Ladies' Classic Tailoring

Along with it's companion on classic tailor for men's wear, this book is absolutely essential reading, for it is an absolute classic in terms of the way the book deals step-by-step with the practical making up of a coat and skirt.

It must be clarified that it is complete and utter nonsense that the methods for tailoring women's coats described here is identical to the companion men's tailoring book. Whoever thinks that has clearly neither read this book, nor it's companion. The techniques outlined are totally different, from the shape of the canvas, the panels being canvassed or mounted/underlayed, and even the layers forming the chest piece. There are even sections dealing with a coat with separately cut skirt, as well as discussions about paneled jackets. Obviously, neither of these are found in the men's tailoring edition. The details on how to construct a coat, or skirt are far beyond the instructions found inside a commercial pattern. Yes, the skirt is a plain tailor's skirt rather than a fancier dressmaker's skirt, but this is what the book is about: classic custom/bespoke tailoring a skirt as part of a suit, not couture style dressmaking.

Rodney Mullen is a former freestyle world champion with the best contest record in professional skating. He’s credited with laying the foundation for street skating and was voted the 2002 Skater of the Year. And he hates horses. He lives in Los Angeles, California, with his wife.

Sean Mortimer was the editor of Skate -- boarder magazine and coauthored Hawk: Occupation: Skateboarder with Tony Hawk. He lives in Oceanside, California, with his wife and son.

Inspiring Asperger's Philosophy

I was drawn to this book after seeing Rodney's interviews on Stacy Peralta's film, "Bones Brigade." His ability to speak in complete paragraphs with well crafted phrases explaining complicated concepts clearly caught my attention, and the passion the he conveyed brought me to tears. I was delighted to find he'd written an autobiography, and purchased a copy immediately. His story of perseverance against all opposition, fueled by his love for skate boarding, was bittersweet and inspiring. With the help of his ghostwriter the narrative was seamless. I knew very little about the development of professional skateboarding, and this book provided a window into a world I would not otherwise have experienced.

could not stop

I got this book, because of my interest in skateboarding. I am still to this day fascinated with all things Steve Rocco (big brother/jackass), early 90's skateboarding, Skateboard art, and skateboard history. I knew most of the skateboard industry stories but these were told through Mullen perspective. I had low expectations on this book, because that I already knew alot of the subject matter. Once I started reading I read up to chapter 5. I put it down but couldn't stop thinking about it. Mowed the lawn, went skateboarding for an hour, came back home picked the book up again. I can tell you it is an easy read, but i was so enthralled about his passion. I related to how he saw his skateboard. I often think that I wouldn't be the person I am today if it wasn't for my skateboard. I was put to tears when reading about his mom. I never actually cried when reading, but the chapters leading up to his mom's death had hit me so hard, i couldn't even breath. I look up at the clock went I finished reading and it was 2 in the mourning. I read the whole book with in a day, and can't wait to re-read it. Just a note, I rarely ever read a book cover to cover in one day. Great book.

Inspiring True Story About a Skateboard Legend

"The Mutt: How to Skateboard and Not Kill Yourself," by Rodney Mullen, is an honest, raw look into the life of one of skateboarding's patron figures and into the sport itself. Let me just say that if you don't know who Rodney Mullen is, just go to Google or YouTube and search his name. He is one of the most innovative pioneers of modern skateboarding. He's been skating professionally since the late 70's as a freestyler and many of the tricks he invented led to what modern street skaters are doing today. He continues to invent new tricks with his style of skating that is truly unique, a blend of technical and street style.

This book is his autobiography, a story which reveals so much more about the man who is responsible for more of modern skateboarding's development than most pro skaters involved in the sport today. It's also a very inspiring story about Mullen's own personal challenges with family, personality disorders and many challenges that helped to shape him into the man he became.

It was not long into reading that Rodney reveals himself to be the very intelligent but socially awkward person that initially led him to the skateboard culture as a kid. We also see how his character is shaped by the influence of a very driven and structurally rigid father who pushes him to excel in life to the point of eventually mandating Rodney's retirement from professional skateboarding at age 16 because he decides it's taking over too much of Rodney's life and doesn't hold a future for him. We read as Rodney learns how to cope with these and many other challenges and eventually becomes a multimillionaire through co-founding one of the most successful skateboard companies of the 90's and continues to cast an influence over the skateboarding industry well into the new millennium, a full 30 years after he first stepped foot on a skateboard.

"The Mutt" is a casual read and took me only three and a half weeks to complete, compared with a book of similar size that took me more than three months to finish before reading this one. Rodney clearly has the writing style of an analytical thinker, recounting vivid details of his life in a meaningful story telling fashion. At time I could barely put it down without reading three to four chapters at once.

As a high school teenager I remember being introduced to Rodney Mullen via pictures in skateboarding magazines. I'll never forget that one of my favorite skateboarding videos was the Rodney Mullen vs. Daewon Song video in late 90's. It was really exciting to dig back into so many memories of my own past as I read about someone who influenced my growing up in a small way. After reading his story, it became clear that his influence was actually not as small as I thought.

Particularly encouraging about this book is the way Mullen describes the learning process he's gone through in life with regard to dealing with problems, or more specifically learning to deal with them. I know that many young people in the skateboarding community use their sport as an outlet. While outlets can certainly be positive, they often serve instead as a way of not dealing with life problems. In this book Rodney shows how he had actually exhibited that same pattern, but over time began to learn how to deal with the many issues in his life rather than just avoiding them through skating.

I would very much recommend this book to anybody who's been involved with skateboarding in their lifetime as you will certainly appreciate the story of Rodney Mullen. I'd also recommend this as a good read for people who simply appreciate seeing how others resolve many of life's common struggles. You won't be able to put it down quickly.

Fantastic...

I own a dozen of these Map Packs, produced over the past five years (older ones are not laminated). I will be buying several more. Paizo's products are superior. I do own two of the Flip Mats, and find those more difficult to work with unless you have a clear Plexiglas/Acrylic covering over them. I prefer these card stock tiles much more as I can CUSTOMIZE the scene for the setting or play space, the flip mats require more table space. These can combine with other sets as well and thus open MANY MORE OPTIONS. Do know that, not being covered they may move during play incidentally. I would gladly take that versus the thicker DnD boxed map tiles as the Map Pack requires much lets to readjust. The ARTWORK easily compares to them, and thus make a better product overall. I use both figures (metal/plastic) and Steve Jackson's Card Board Heroes (with stands) but prefer the latter.
