Actually very good

I just finished this book and came onto Amazon looking for similar book recommendations. I read the review about the 'shill' reviews, and I can see what you mean. The reviewers (including myself) haven't reviewed anything else. But this book was actually very good, even if the other reviewers were friends of the author.

I really enjoyed the characters and the character growth. I really empathized with the main character - I was frustrated (at men!), upset and sad with her. I learned a lot of interesting historical facts, but it was never teach-y. The romance wasn't over-the-top, although the main character did seem to be interested in a large number of men (but I guess in the West where there are a limited number of women and lots of men are throwing themselves at you, that could be understandable). There was also an odd change of point-of-view in the beginning - the author wrote a bit from Tim's point-of-view, when she never deviated from Aislynn's before or after.

Now I may have to go write a bunch of other reviews to make this one valid, but the bottom line is that, for me, this book is extremely enjoyable and well worth the money!

Good story but...

I loved this story. The author's characters are well fleshed-out. However, I found that the errors made me crazy. Maybe it is just the kindle version that needs some additional editing, but having errors like, pronouns misused, naming people incorrectly, and lack of punctuation just bothers me. I found I had to re-read parts to figure out what the heck was going on. I did enjoy the book if my grousing doesn't turn anyone off!

Eagerly waiting for the sequel!

Some writers excel at creating a world we want to succumb to, while others master the dynamics of a story that has the power to affect our sense of humanity. I feel that Susan Denning has found THE balance. Because I come from a filmmaking perspective, I especially enjoyed her skill at immediately grabbing the reader by the collar and dropping him in Aislynn's meticulously crafted world - the smells, the textures, the social dynamic, the moral compass of that time. And I found myself smiling with gratitude when, by page two, I realized I wanted to remain in that world. And I did, and left only when I unfortunately had to, at the end of Aislynn's journey from the girl she was to the woman she was always meant to become. I am ready, Mrs. Denning, as some of your other reviewers also seem to be, to be there for her next journey.
This is not a book you read; it is a book you experience. I hope that many, many, many get to enjoy it.

Invaluable text

Through my clinical neurophysiology fellowship and beyond, Dr. Campbell's text book has remained a frequently utilized asset to my study. The text is filled with a voluminous amount of high-yield concepts in electrodiagnostic medicine, which are explained in an easy-to-read format. In particular, his illustrations are very effective in portraying anatomy and basic-science concepts relevant to electrodiagnostic medicine.

The text served me well as an intense review summary (as I used it repeatedly preparing for both the ABEM and ABPN fellowship boards), and also has been a valuable reference in my clinical practice. Unlike other books on my office shelf, I return to Dr. Campbell's book regularly.

I would highly recommend Essentials of Electrodiagnostic Medicine for any clinical neurophysiology fellow, or any physician who performs electrodiagnostic studies as part of his/her clinical practice.

About the Author
Hanne-Ruth Thompson received her PH.D. in Bengali at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London and her MA in Linguistics at Freiburg University, Germany. She has lived in Bangladesh and is author of Bengali: A Comprehensive Grammar (Rutledge 2010) and the forthcoming Bengali-English/English-Bengali Practical Dictionary (Hippocrene 2011). She teaches Bengali at SOAS and resides in England with her husband and three children.

I got it--It's great !!!

This is one of the best Bengali language books around. It serves everyone from casual travelers to people who really want to learn the language and may know quite a bit. The grammar section is the best I've ever seen: clear and concise. Vocabulary section is not huge, but basic 1,500 (or so) words clearly translated.

Another really excellent feature: Thompsons' system for English transliteration of Bengali letters is simple, direct and clear! Many otherwise excellent textbooks (Colloquial Bengali, for example) seem to compete with each other as to who can think up a more arcane transliteration scheme, as different as possible from other textbooks. It is a relief to use it, as small as it is. No disrespect to the other stalwarts in the field, Radice and Dimock, but definitely one of the top Bengali books.

I bought it because I like Bengali script and wanted a dictionary so see how words are written. In this case the accompaning script (or bengali words) is a bit small so sometimes it's a bit unclear but overall it's very complete word-wise. Good purchase.

Finally a useful Phrasebook!

I have been trying for many years to learn Bengali and finally this little book seems to have a lot going for it! The size is perfect for carrying. Both dictionaries from English to Bengali and Bengali to English are very easy to read and navigate AND uses the Bengali script, not just a transcription. It is complete with alphabet and pronunciation, phrases that are actually useful and my favorite...a small, but very useful grammar overview! Overall an easy to read, useful little book!

The Best Gift You Can Give

A few years ago I was introduced to this book as the new owner of a toy store. I can honestly say that this book has changed my life and the world around me. It is simply the best gift that you can give to someone. I have witnessed people pick up this book and shed a tear while reading it. It touches you. People buy it for newborns, children graduating from kindergarten,grandchildren,highschool graduation,college graduation,you name it. The painted rock fish in this book inspire the reader to look at life around them and see the world through new inspired eyes. It encourages you to make this world a better place. The children at one of our local elementary schools have lined the front entry to their school with painted rock fish dedicated to Linda Kranz and her book. The words from this book are etched in metal for everyone to read as they enter the school. How many books inspire this in a community? Only One You is truely the best gift that you can give.

Beautiful book for children with a great message!

I love this book! It has a great message about being an individual while not telling kids how unrealistically special they are. I don't like books that tell kids that they are more special than others, etc. This one talks about how sometimes you need to stand out and sometimes you need to fit in. I think it is the perfect balance of teaching kids that it's okay to be different and it's okay to be the same, so long as you stay true to who you are.

I liked this book so much that I bought Linda Kranz's other book You Be You. I love that one, too!

This is a beautiful book with reminders for your child that there is no one out there like them. That they are unique and amazing. I bought this for my daughter's teachers to sign at the end of the school year. She has just finished 7th grade, so we are getting a late start on this. I plan on giving this to her on the day of her 12th grade graduation.

About the Author
Alan Merry is a practising cardiac anaesthetist, whose research focuses on safety, and in particular, on reducing error, in anaesthesia. He was the co-founder and co-chair of the New Zealand Medical Law Reform Group, which contributed to the passing of the Crimes Amendment Act 1997 which redefined the threshold for criminal prosecution arising from negligently caused harm in New Zealand. He is author of a number of papers in medical and legal journals. He has developed a computer-based systems approach to reducing drug administration in anaesthesia (the IDAS) which applies many of the principles discussed in this book, and which is in use in several Auckland hospitals.

This is an excellent book which gives a very good introduction to the field of peri-operative TEE. It is much better than the older version with new chapters on the upcoming field of 3-D ECHO. A must have for any one trying to master TEE in general.

Extremely difficult to follow without other resources.

For a text intent on explaining the principles and practices of echocardiography, the authors do a very poor job in conveying their obviously detailed knowledge to the reader. New concepts are rapidly introduced with either no explanation or no examples, relying on the reader to find other resources to provide a better grasp on the ideas. Whilst the depth is excellent, I was quite disappointed in the text and found others much more useful for concepts, relying only on this text for its greater depth.

I know this book is a classic but I found it to be rather difficult to follow...Perrino's book, although less detailed, explains things in a much easier format....The DVD, however, has excellent clips that help in the review process for the NBE exam...

Good but needs better indexing and charts.

A good Book, but it could have used a better glossary in order to more easily find things and some organizational charts to show how things relate to each other. I found the camera confusing with its many options and no overview of basic things, for instance camera operational modes, relate to aperture which relates to fstop, exposure modes (spot, Center, matrix, etc.), focusing modes, etc. A chart which ties this together would have been most helpful. Book just regurgitates the manual with a different slant.
